You know that moment when you’re strolling through the drugstore, minding your own business, and then HELLO, out of nowhere you spy a selection of brand new beauty products sitting there on the shelf, calling out to you and just begging you to snap them up.
Well, one such remarkable moment happened to me in a big way the other day, thanks to the newly-launched Revlon Ultra HD Lipsticks. I mean, how was I supposed to resist? Just look at that delightfully shiny packaging, and those oh-so beautiful shades. Plus, the concept of an HD lipstick really appealed to me. As someone who loves to wear a bold lip, I’m always intrigued to see what unique innovations different beauty brands are coming up with in the lippy department. Plus, the floral-inspired names are just delightful as far as I’m concerned.
So, onto the lipsticks themselves.
I’m thrilled to report – after all of that initial excitement – that these lipsticks are really rather wonderful, as far as I’m concerned. All four shades that I tried are brilliantly pigmented and offer a ruddy great colour pay-off. Application-wise, they go on incredibly smoothly and feel really nourishing, which is great, particularly at this time of year when my lips are feeling particularly dry.
Because the formula is so nourishing however, it does mean that the lipstick can get a bit smudgy if you don’t keep a beady eye on it – I managed to end up with a big smear on my chin at one point during the day, don’t ask me how! – but provided you check up on it every now and then, this shouldn’t cause too much of a problem.
As you can see from the photos, these lipsticks are far from matte; they are by no means shiny or shimmery, but they do have a bit of a natural sheen to them when you first apply them. Nothing over-the-top or obvious, just something to bear in mind if you’re more of a matte lip fan. The formula does dry down after a little while though, not quite to a totally matte finish, but something that sits somewhere in between matte and sheeny.
And other than that, I’m seriously thrilled with all four of the lipsticks that I picked up – and already have my eye on a few more of the shiny shades…..
