The weather here in New York is cold. Like really cold. The kind of frosty, chill-you-to-the-bone bitterness that leaves you feeling incredibly chilly for hours, even after you’ve made it inside.

So, in addition to all of the warm layers, thick coats, gloves, hats and scarves that I’ve taken to carrying around with me on a daily basis, I’ve also put together a few key beauty bits and bobs that help to defend my face against the chilly winds.

The first – and probably the most vital – product in there is the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour CreamThis stuff is just superb when it comes to defending against all of the symptoms of cold weather; from dry hands and cracked cuticles to chapped lips and dry skin, this ointment can literally heal anything, and it’s for that reason that I rarely leave home without a tube of it stashed somewhere in my bag.

If I fancy being a bit braver and venturing beyond the Eight Hour Cream on my lips however, I turn to the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Cherrya beautifully bright and bold tinted lip balm that adds the perfect whack of colour, while still helping to really nourish and protect the lips. It doesn’t cling to any horrible dry bits, it doesn’t leave my lips feeling sore and cracked; it’s the ultimate winter lip saviour.

Then there are the eyes. I don’t know about you guys, but whenever the colder winter months roll around – no matter what country I’m in! – my eyes just cannot stop watering. And I don’t know if it’s the wind or the bitterly frosty temperatures here in NYC, but during the past few weeks my watery eyes have been worse than ever, causing some people to actually stop me in the street and ask me if I’m ok. Slightly embarrassing…

So, in order to try and combat the wind-induced weepiness – or at the very least the after effects of it – I’ve taken to carrying around the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer to brighten up my under eye area and detract from any redness, and the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Black Velvetwhich I can use to quickly give my eyes some added flair, even after I’ve cried off every other shred of make up.

Then, after all that beauty fun, it’s on to a couple of less glamorous – but oh-so necessary – items. Numero uno on the list? Tissues. Where oh where would I be without them. What with the weepy eyes and the runny nose – sorry, TMI – I’ve been going through at least a packet of these a week. So much so that I feel like I’m owed some shares in Kleenex…!

And along with my much-loved tissues, we have a hair tie and some hair clips because you never know when the wind is going to get the better of you and your barnet, so why not be prepared for the worst, eh?

What cold weather essentials are you guys carting round at the moment?

ahh I’m going to NYC in a few weeks and will be braving the bitter cold. Thank for the tips! 🙂

I am not envying you your cold weather!

Winter here is days of 10-15ºC with a couple weeks thrown in where it might get chillier (and a few weeks were we get higher temperatures and we crowd all the cafés terraces!), so if I ever travel to NY or whereabouts I would be as ill prepared as those Jamaicans in that bobsleigh film! Or if I were to visit the UK I would need to buy an umbrella as I don’t even own one!

I do change a few things though, as I definitely need more moisture on my face and lips: I use heavier formulas
