Hydrate1 Hydrate2 Hydrate3

Good morning everyone, and welcome to the start of a new year here on Small Fish Big Pond.

I know that, for many of you, last night may have involved staying up into the wee hours of the morning in order to ring in 2015 in finest form and, if you are anything like me, the after effects of such merriment will showing rather obviously in your complexion.

It seems to be that whenever I have a late night, particularly when said late night is accompanied by a glass of champagne, my skin is left looking – and feeling – horribly dehydrated and lacklustre come morning.

So, determined not to start of 2015 with dull, dry skin – TMI!? – I put together a collection of products to help, be it a full-on moisturising session at home, or a few quick remedies on the go.

First things first, start the day as you mean to go on and ensure all traces of make up from the night before are gone by using a nourishing oil cleanser – I personally love the NUDE Perfect Cleanse Omega Cleansing Jelly which really helps to soothe and soften my skin, while ensuring it is completely cleared of all make up. Then it’s on to a double whack of moisture with an oil – the Tarte Maracuja Oil is my current product of choice – followed by a moisturiser – which, for me, is the Kate Somerville Oil-Free Moisturizer

Not wanting to neglect the rest of my body, I also tend to throw in a good dose of hand cream, body lotion and whatever intensive lip treatment I have lying around – usually the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream

During the day, when I’m out and about in the cold weather, it’s all the more important to ensure my skin stays completely hydrated. One of my absolute favourite products, which tends to live in my handbag at all times of the year, is the Weleda Skin Foodan incredibly intensive natural moisturiser which treats all manner of skin woes, including severe chapping and dryness.

Similarly, the Jurlique Rose Love Balm is another handy multi-tasker which works pretty much anywhere, be it your cuticles, your lips or your face. If my lips are really struggling however, I’ll make sure I have a pot of the Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm with me. While I’m not overly fond of using a potted balm while I’m out and about – geeeeerms – this bad boy is just the best product to use when my lips are in need of some serious hydration.

Then there are The Body Shop Hand Creams , which come in handy pocket-sizes that are small enough to pop in your bag – plus they smell amazing…!

Last but not least? water. Probably the most key element of all. On days like today you should be gulping down loads of the stuff. I promise, it will make a world of difference and – if you overindulged on the alcohol side of things last night – it will help you to feel a bit better. Honest!

I hope you guys all had a brilliant start to 2015!
