This past month has been all about lip colours for me. While I usually like to dabble in a good bold lippy two to three times a week – mixing it up with some balms and glosses in between – in recent weeks, they’re all I’ve wanted to wear on my lips.
One of the main motivations behind my lip colour lovin’ has been the discovery of the Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils (£4.99). For those of you that have been reading my blog for a wee while, you’ll know that I’m not a fan of conventional matte lip colours. No matter how hard I’ve tried to embrace the much-loved NARS offerings, I just find them so uncomfortable to wear. And I’ll be honest, when I saw this new release from Maybelline, I genuinely assumed that they would be exactly the same.
But then the hype started. Oh the hype. Beauty lovers and blogger across the UK were praising the pencils for their brilliance, complimenting everything from the formula to the shade range. So obviously, I popped a couple of them in my basket at Boots and kept my fingers tightly crossed that they wouldn’t disappoint.
Holy moly they did not.
The Maybelline pencils are all kinds of brilliant. Beautifully pigmented, long-lasting, lightweight, balmy, nourishing – pretty much everything you could ever ask for in a lip pencil. In my opinion at least. The only issue I think some might have with them is that they aren’t totally matte – which is a bonus point for me! – and offer more of a ‘demi-matte’ finish that has a super subtle hint of shine.
Other than that, they’re ace – and I’m thrilled with both of the colours that I picked out. Keep It Classy is a beautiful plummy tone, very similar to MAC Plumful but with a bit more of a creaminess to it, while Light It Up is a brilliant bright bold red that I predict will come in incredibly handy during the upcoming festive season.
My only complaint? I can’t find them anywhere here in the US and I am desperate to pick up some more. Any ideas?!
