So, November huh? How ruddy quickly has that come around?! I know I say this pretty much every month – ok, literally every month – but it seems like time is flying by in a seriously speedy manner at the moment. In one sense that makes me oh-so happy, mainly because it means we’re getting so much closer to Christmas, woop woop, but in some ways I wish that time would slow down slightly and give me more of a chance to get to grips with reality… before it passes me by completely.
Thanks to the ‘big move’ as I’m now calling it, October was a bit of a manic month and as a result my monthly favourites are a bit odd. We’ll start with the usual suspects, the beauty bits, and kick off with my much-loved Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt Cologne (£82). This scent is unlike anything else that I own, it’s fresh, it’s floral and it has an ever so subtle salty undertone which conjures up images of the seaside. It’s the quintessential British fragrance and I’m so happy to have it here with me in NY.
Moving on to some US-based beauty bits… The Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette ($22) is pretty much all I have been using on my eyes this month. The super slim and lightweight packaging make it the perfect travel companion and the colours are just everything I want in an eyeshadow, and more. Add to that the beautifully buttery formulas and you have yourself one perfect palette. Then there’s the Nyx Butter Gloss in Praline ($5), which is another product that has been dominating my make up bag in recent weeks. Granted, this is more of a recent purchase, but in the one week since buying it, I’ve worn little else on my pout and can’t see that changing any time soon.
My foundation of choice for much of the month has been the L’Oreal True Match Foundation (£9.99) thanks to its lightweight formula, amazing coverage and durability. This stuff outlasts almost all of the other foundations in my beauty arsenal and can even withstand a full working day at the office without disappearing from my face like so many other products tend to.
The last beauty-related item is more of a basic bit, my new Revlon by Marchesa Nail File ($1.95). Essentially this is just the same as any other nail file that you might pick up – it does the job though, to be clear – but I couldn’t resist the amazing turquoise design… It just sucked me in and before I knew it, this bad boy was in my basket and on its way to the till. Imagine that!
Now on to fashion – and then food.
Despite vowing never to ever give in to the recent(ish) return of the scrunchie trend, I’ve gone and done just that thanks to this beautiful burgundy velvet number from Topshop. It’s the perfect autumn shade and I’m hoping will help to spruce up my hairdo on those days when the wind prevents it from being left down.
And in keeping with the theme of wind and cold protection, my Leon Max cashmere camel scarf has also been put to some seriously good use in this chilly NY weather. It’s super soft, super warm and the colour adds an extra bit of sophistication to any outfit. In my oh-so humble opinion that is!
Last but not least, we have a foodie item – and one which will either make you desperate to try it or have you running away in horror. The Jif Whips Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Pie Spice Spread. For those of you that are fans of peanut butter and fans of the whole cinnamon-y pumpkin-y taste, you will love this. Trust me. If any of those flavours have you crinkling your nose in horror, it’s probably not for you!
Now on to November and the next adventure…
