As much as I love going on holiday – and boy, do I – I find the whole travelling drama to be quite tedious, tiring and stressful, and the most recent return journey from Turkey was no exception. After a day of travelling – bus, plane, taxi – I found myself sleeping for pretty much all of the following day before waking up to a horrible head cold and just a general feeling of bleh. Know what I mean?
Determined to try and regain some of that relaxed and happy holiday feeling, I embarked on a quick pamper, focusing massively on the whole hydration aspect to try and combat any sun-induced dryness. (TMI?!)
First things first, I prepped my face with a healthy dose of the Philosophy Brighten My Day (c/o £32) before moving on to the Indeed Labs Hydraluron Moisture Boosting Mask (£19.99). Despite looking terrifying, these sheet masks really do help to leave your skin feeling so nourished and hydrated and, combined with the Philosophy product, ensure a brighter, happier and healthier complexion all round. Exactly what you want after a week away, non?
While I did my best to stay on top of my SPF application while away – including factor 50 on my face every day – I developed a few awkward dry patches around my nose and under my eyes. Needless to say they made make up application ever so difficult. So in an attempt to nip ’em in the bud completely, I applied a healthy dose of the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask (£17.50), which really helps to treat any dry or irritated skin, before following up with some Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream (£25) which is without a doubt one of the most reliable hydrating skin soothers out there. Sunburn, dry lips, dry face, chapped cuticles – you name it, this stuff cures it. It’s the dream.
The last two products on my list were really afterthoughts in the whole process. While waiting for my mask to work its magic and do its thang, I decided to pop on a hair mask in the hopes that it might reverse a bit of the damage done by all that sand, sea, sun and chlorine. I applied a pretty hefty dose of the L’Oreal Ever Riche Nourishing Intense Mask (£6.99) to the ends of my hair, let it sink in for a good 15 minutes and was left with much happier, healthier tresses afterwards, much to my delight.
Then the final step, which came in the form of a pre-bedtime hydrating face spritz courtesy of the Lush Eau Roma Water (£7.50). The rosewater and lavender formula helps to soothe my skin, calm any redness and also lock in that final bit of moisture before I hit the hay. Plus it feels delightfully refreshing when spritzed.
So, there you have it, the final step of what really was the most amazing week away. Someone take me back now. Please…?
