After going many years without really touching blush at all – I was more of a bronzed *ahem* goddess gal if I’m honest – it has fast become one of my favourite, must-wear beauty products. And having spent a fair few months navigating round a wide variety of shades, from subtle peachy pinks to brighter bold colours, I thought it was time to share the love with some of my favourite flushed shades.
While I’m always partial to a good peachy tone, recently I’ve been trying to shake things up a bit with some brighter shades which still add a really beautiful flush while also giving an extra pop of colour. In my opinion the key thing to remember when plumping for a bolder blush colour is to go easy in other areas – and perhaps try and tone back any other pink shade that you’re going to use. Bronzer and lipstick should be kept low-key and eye make up kept fairly neutral. That way the blush is the focus.
It’s also important to use a light hand when applying your blush – it’s a whole heap easier to build the layers rather than trying to remove ’em after a heavy-handed application! For example, the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Natural Beauty (£23), is so pigmented, you need only tap your brush once in the pan before sweeping it onto your cheeks. Grin like an idiot while you’re brushing it on and concentrate on the apples of your cheeks to get the most natural look.
If you’re worried about making the move towards a brighter blush colour, try a more subtle cream formula – like the Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm in Plumped Up Peony (c/o £19) which is incredibly easy to apply and blends in really easily, so it’s not as much of an issue if you go in with a bit of a heavy hand.
Now go forth ladies (and gents!), it’s time to get your bold blush awn. Be brave now.
