On occasion in this fair country of ours, the usual dampness and drizzle is cast aside in favour of bright blue skies and gloriously sunny weather. Said occasions are worthy of much celebration and honour, be it a picnic feast at your local park, a cheeky ice cream midway through the working day or an evening visit to your local beer garden.
The one downside to these too-rare sweltering conditions is the unavoidable bead, the unwelcome sweatiness that no amount of anti-perspirant or additional preparation can prevent. TMI? But while the sweaty conditions can’t be helped, there are certain steps you can take to make sure your make up doesn’t suffer a slippery downfall in the sweltering summer and remains fresh and on your face all day long.
First things first, you want to get yourself a ruddy great primer to provide the perfect anchor for your base. My primers of choice in this instance are the Max Factor Face Finity All Day Primer for my face and the L’Oreal De-Crease Eye Shadow Base, both of which help to make my make up last as long as possible. And when paired with my foundation of choice – the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation – and a tip top concealer (or five) – the Make Up Forever 5 Camouflage Cream Palette – I’m guaranteed a flawless base that will last throughout the day. Topped up with a quick dusting of Soap & Glory Kick Ass Powder and the results are even better.
For my cheeks, I plumped for the Clinique Cheek Pop in Peach Pop, because it applies oh-so easily, creates a beautiful colour and seems to hang around on cheeks forever.
When it comes to the eyes, I look no further than the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Bronze Moon – easy to apply and blend, plus it does not budge – the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner – again, easy to apply and does not budge – the Studio 10 i-Lift Longwear Liner – great for tightlining – and the Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes Mascara – I’m not usually one for waterproof formulas but when it comes to long-wearing power, this one if perfect.
Last in line are lips and brows – one of my most-loved areas of my face versus one of the most irritating. Can you guess which is which?! For the first option – lips – I have such a huge variety of incredible colours but this Maybelline Color Elixir topped the charts thanks to its nourishing formula and long-lasting staying power. When it comes to brows, I’m still really enjoying the Revlon Brow Fantasy in Blonde, and still hoping it will give me a bit of a better brow area in general…!
As you can see from the above photo – taken after a long 13-hour day in the office – this make up really does last, even in the face of the warmest weather around. Bring it on summer, I’m ready for ya.
