Grab your party hats, blow up some balloons and whip out a cake ladies and gents, it’s celebration time. Beauty box brand Glossybox celebrated its 3rd birthday this past week with a big old load of American-themed fun, including a hot dog party and an all-American beauty box.
If you want to see a few photos from the party, head to my Instagram – there was a pick n mix that featured sweets and mini beauty products, some of the best hot dogs and cocktails I’ve ever tasted and Kimberly Wyatt on the decks for the evening – but for now I’m going to focus on the limited edition birthday box, which features four full-size products plus a sample size thrown in for good measure.
First of all, let’s talk about the packaging, which I love. The stars-and-stripes box is ace and makes the box stand out from all the others that I have received from the brand in the past. But do the products inside measure up? Yes and no…
At first glance, I don’t feel that this box was particularly inventive. With the whole American thang being the focus of everything else Glossybox birthday-related, I think there was a bit more room for them to have a bit of fun with the products inside. More of a play on the whole red white and blue perhaps, or maybe even just a few more product picks from across the pond.
However, when I took a closer look at all the goodness inside, I have to admit, I was pretty excited about four of the five bits included – which ain’t too bad going.
∞ Bellapierre Mineral Lipstick in Ruby – This isn’t a brand that I know a huge amount about, so I’m excited to give this lipstick a whirl. Colour-wise, it’s a really pretty bright and bold red. A bit more orange-y than I would usually go for but I’m quite excited to try and work with that
∞ Color Club Nail Lacquer in Glossy Seal – Glossybox actually teamed up with Color Club especially to create this colour for their birthday box. The shade is like a denim-y blue, which is really nice but very similar to Essie’s Go Overboard which I actually have two bottles of (don’t ask) so this might be one that ends up in the hands of and on the nails of a nail polish-less pal
∞ Absolute New York Eyeshadow Primer – I love a good eyeshadow primer so I was thrilled to see one included in this month’s box. I’ve never heard of the brand before – nor could I find any evidence of them online! – but the primer itself looks pretty good. It’s slightly coloured so will help to cover up any blue lines or redness, as well as prepping your lids for some colour
∞ Carmex Lip Balm – Now this might make me sound crazy but I’ve really gone off Carmex. While I know it’s a big favourite with thousands upon thousands of beauty lovers out there, I’m just not that into it and think that there are far better lip balm options out there. Plus I think there are far more exciting options for a Glossybox inclusion… Sorry Carmex lovers, this one just ain’t for me
∞ Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara (Mini) – From my least favourite to my most favourite, I was delighted to see this mascara in there with all the other products. I have the full size version already, but this small sample size option will be the perfect fit for my handbag
What do you guys think of this month’s birthday box? Yay or nay?
