SPF

Now that summer has finally arrived – can I get a hell yeah!? – it’s time to start thinking about taking your SPF to the next level. For those of you that already wear a facial SPF on a day-to-day basis, this might mean upping the level, as well as adding in something for the rest of your body as well. And for those of you that don’t wear any at all at the moment, it’s time to think about adding it into your everyday routine.

Now I’m not just talking in terms of super sunny days when you’re going to be out trying to get a tan. Unfortunately, the sun’s most harmful rays can get you when you’re least expecting it – on colder days, cloudier days and even those days that don’t really feel that warm. And you know what they say, better safe than sorry.

When it comes to my SPF choices, I have to be quite careful about the options that I go for, particularly those that I use on my face. A lot of SPFs have a habit of wreaking havoc on my complexion, aggravating my skin and leading to a lot of breakouts and blemishes and up until quite recently, I had to fork out a helluva lot on high-end SPF products in order to ensure I was totally covered. Thankfully the variety of SPFs available in drugstores has seriously improved in recent months and there’s a whole host of ace options out there, perfect for every budget.

Face-wise, I’m currently loving the Soap & Glory Make Yourself Youthful Sunshield Superfluid SPF 50 which is incredibly lightweight, goes on really well under make up and doesn’t leave any excess oiliness on your face. It’s perfect for those of you that want something super easy that you can incorporate into your everyday routine. Similarly, the Aveeno Smart Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturiser is a great everyday option, while also serving as a pretty ace daily moisturizer. It doesn’t aggravate my skin and doesn’t cause any blemishes, plus it provides SPF 30 protection. Winner winner.

When thinking more in terms of the beach or pool, look no further than the Dior Bronze Protection Solaire SPF 30 Face. This is a little bit more heavy duty in terms of application – I wouldn’t recommend wearing this one under make up – but doesn’t clog your complexion or cause blemishes. You can keep applying a thing layer every few hours or so and you’re sorted for SPF protection all day long. It’s the compact packaging makes it a great option if you need to top up your shoulders or anything like that while you’re out and about.

Last up is my favourite all-around SPF, the Garnier Ambre Solaire Light & Silky Protection Lotion. This lightweight formula feels so soft on the skin, leaves no tackiness or oily residue and it’s pretty budget-friendly too. Ideal for bringing along in your beach bag.

What SPFs will you be wearing this summer?

  1. I have exactly the same problem with SPF too and really struggle to find a good product for the face; I’ve tried many! Currently loving Elta MD which I found in NY!!
