This time last year or thereabouts there was one spot-busting beauty product that everybody wanted to get hold of, the La Roche-Posay Effaclar DuoSo praised were its blemish-banishing abilities that it sold out from almost everywhere within hours of being re-stocked, causing demand to sky rocket even further. Well, fast forward 12 months and that same brilliant skincare item has been given an upgrade – and earned itself a little ‘+’ sign in the process.

The new and improved La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo [+] not only promises the same spot-fighting formula as before but with the added bonus of also bring a redness and scar-reducing treatment. Sounds like a winner, huh? So how does it measure up to the original…

Well, having been using this for about a month now, I can confirm that it still works wonders on my blemishes, clearing them up little to no time at all. In terms of its effect on scarring and redness, it takes a little bit longer – between 4 and 6 weeks – to see any results  so don’t expect the same immediate impact as it has on spots because it will take some time to treat the after-effects of any blemishes. But treat it does. Just one month in and I’m seeing a real reduction in redness and scarring and I have to admit I’m impressed.

One word of warning however: this can be quite drying on the skin and I would advise using with some restraint if you suffer from dryness. Other than that, it’s definitely worth trying out to see exactly why it’s worth all that hype.
