Goodness I love a good nail colour. And despite the fact that my polish collection is now spilling out from its assigned storage, I still can’t help picking up new polishes every time I head into Boots – which, FYI, i pretty much every day!

Two of the newest additions to my expansive nail arsenal are the Nails Inc Gel Effect Polish in Porchester Square and the Maybelline Color Show Brocades in Knitted Gold and I think the two of them actually go really well together! For those of you that haven’t heard of Porchester Square before, it’s one of Nails Inc’s most popular shades – what they call their ‘hero shades’ – and is almost always sold out in stores. So when they brought out the gel formula version in this beautiful beige shade, I couldn’t wait to lay my hands on it.

As you would no doubt expect from Nails Inc, the quality is superb – the brush is a bit bigger than the one found in the normal Nails Inc bottles which makes application super easy; just a quick sweep on each nail and you’re ready to roll with a beautifully glossy opaque finish which remains chip-free for days on end, even without the addition of a top coat layer.

Knitted Gold, which I’ve layered on one nail to create an ‘accent nail’, is to my mind the perfect non-glitter glitter. While it gives a good dose of shimmer, it isn’t overly chunky or in your face and leaves the nails with a beautiful rose gold sheen that contains flecks of gold foil and rose pink flecks of shimmer. Ruddy delightful in my opinion and it lasts a really long time which is great, particularly given it’s low drugstore price.

Given that I look set to be wearing these two polishes for weeks on end, perhaps my other lacquers won’t be getting as much lovin’ as usual…!
