I’m sure by now you are all well aware of just how much I – and the rest of the beauty world – love the Urban Decay Naked palettes. The Naked 2 palette, my first pick of the bunch, is entirely responsible for my obsession with neutral eye shades and it was the first of many neutral shade palettes that I’ve picked up over the years.

So when I laid eyes on the Clarins The Essentials palette, which at first sight is quite similar in style to the Naked palette, I knew I had to have it. To my mind, this palette is like a more grown up version of the Naked palettes – and by that I mean slightly less shimmer, a few more matte shades and just a bit more subtlety. with all the same neutral loveliness that you expect from the Urban Decay offerings.

Application-wise, the shadows glide on beautifully. They have that amazing melt-into-your-skin buttery texture that makes them so lovely to use, I’ve found myself reaching for this palette more often than any other the others in my stash in recent weeks. In terms of the packaging, the cardboard casing isn’t quite as durable as the Naked tin and doesn’t have quite as luxe a feeling. It by no means feels cheap, it’s just a bit different… Totally up to your personal preference which you prefer but I’m happy with either really, particularly when the eyeshadows inside are so bloody brilliant.

What palettes are you guys loving at the moment?
