Waking up to a face full of blemishes is never a pleasant experience – particularly when they seem to continue multiplying for days on end – but thankfully I’ve finally managed to work out a routine which helps to combat, reduce and, if I’m lucky, eliminate the spotty problem altogether.
Having taken (yet another) leaf out of Caroline Hirons’ book – her sudden breakout cheat sheet is da bomb – I think I’ve found a combination of products that I’m confident can kick the ass of any blemish out there.
So, first things first, cleanse. Morning and night. Personally, I turn to my REN ClearCalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser in the mornings – it’s not the best for getting rid of make-up but the clay formula offers a seriously deep clean and soothes redness at the same, winner. For evenings, it’s likely to be a cleansing balm and at the moment it’s the Clinique Take the Day Off Balm that’s really rocking my world.
Post-cleanse, it’s an acid tone – PIXI Glow Tonic to the rescue – followed by a quick spritz of the La Roche-Posay Serozinc to calm any remaining redness and add an extra boost of moisture.
Now, onto the good bit. Post-tone, I apply a thin layer of the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo, a spot fighting gel formula which blitzes blemishes without drying out skin or leaving any grubby residue. Next up, a couple of drops of the Pai BioRegenerate Rosehip Oil which nourishes skin and – despite being an oil – helps to combat build up and blemishes while ensuring skin remains silky smooth and healthy. If I’ve been disciplined enough to do all of this a few hours before bedtime, I’ll continue layering these two products in small amounts until I’m ready to hit the hay. Just wait until your skin has soaked everything up and then continue to apply thin, lightweight layers until bedtime.
Last but not least, yet another nourishing layer to tend to my skin throughout the night, the Origins Make a Difference Plus+ Rejuvenating Treatment. This gel moisturiser has worked wonders when it comes to keeping my complexion clear, reducing any blemish scarring and generally giving my skin that added boost of moisture it so desperately needs – particularly at this time of year when the cold weather begins to take its toll.
Add to this a few litres of water every day, an effort to eat more fresh fruit and veg and a determination to avoid sugar and skin is left looking so much clearer in days. Take that blemishes.
