Candles

I love a good candle and have at least one burning in the flat at some point throughout the day, be it Spring, Summer, Winter or Autumn. So, with the new chillier season comes a new selection of scents. As soon as winter rolls around, I start reaching for richer, slightly spicy smells that I know will spread throughout the flat and warm any room that they’re in.

This season, I’ve added a few new candles to my usual winter line-up – which normally consists of Diptyque Feu de Bois, Jo Malone Roasted Chestnut, Neom Harmonise and Diptyque Pomander – to try and shake things up slightly and branch out beyond my go-to arsenal.

First up, the Laura Mercier Fresh Fig candle, a rich fruity scent which warms the room from the first moment you light it. Having bought this bad boy during the January sales, hidden it in the back of the cupboard and forgotten about it, I couldn’t wait to whip it out and try it. The Laura Mercier candles do tend to be limited edition so if you’re eyeing one up, make sure you snap it up quick when they roll around again this year. I’m already eyeing up the Roasted Chestnut.

Next up, a much thriftier alternative to my beloved Feu de Bois by Diptyqye, the Muji Log Fire Candle. Now I admit the packaging isn’t quite as nice as the Diptyque offering, but the smell is pretty much identical and, despite it’s smaller size, this candle can completely fill the room with a deep woody scent which reminds me of crisp winter walks and afternoons in the pub *sighs*.

Last but not least, my Yankee Candle Spiced Orange. Another slightly spicy scent, this candle is the warmest of the three and comes closest to creating that superb cinnamon smell that conjures up images of Christmas celebrations – which, by the way, I just can’t wait for. Burning time on the medium size candle is seriously impressive; having had this burning night and day in my living room since purchase, I’ve barely made a dent and I’m looking forward to many more hours of burning this…

What candles are you guys burning at the moment? Any other scents I need to snag for myself?
