As some of you may know from my Twitter and Instagram updates, a few months ago I decided to partake in a self-inflicted nail polish detox. A combination of dry, flaky nails and an increasingly-horrible nail biting habit (only when I’m nervous and/or stressed!) had left my nails in need of some serious TLC and the simple answer seemed to me to be a prolonged period with plenty of handcream and cuticle oil and no nail polish.

While for some this may seem like an easy accomplishment, for a nail polish obsessive like myself, it was not so simple. But, I managed it and I’m happy to say that my nails feel a whole heap healthier as a result.

So, in celebration of my newly-tidied nails, I thought I would share with you all my ever-changing tips in a new semi-regular feature: The Nail Files (see what I did there?!). Above are all of the nail colours and creations that I’ve been playing with since allowing myself to re-open my extensive nail polish collection post-detox. Quite the eclectic assortment!

My favourites of the bunch are most definitely Essie Cashmere Bathrobe – a beautiful blue-grey with the subtlest of shimmer – and Bourjois In the Navy – a bright and bold blue that brings a bit of vibrant colour to an otherwise grey winter. While my most recent nail polish addition – Claire’s Splatter Orange – is perhaps not the most subtle for everyday wear, I’m thrilled to have added it to my stocks in time for Halloween and can see myself rocking it almost everyday until the spooky holiday arrives. Sad but true.

That is until something new comes along… *cough* Essie After School Boy Blazer *cough*

I have been meaning to do a nail detox for quite a while now. I just don’t feel right having bare nails. I’m going to use this post as motivation to get on that nail detox train. Thanks! How long did you go without using nail polish?
