I spotted the above picture on one of my favourite ever blogs – Cupcakes and Cashmere – earlier today and it, and the accompanying post by incredi-blogger Emiliy Schuman got me a-thinking. Emily put together the above list after seeing a post on the subject on the Thought Catalog, while pointing out that, although the items on the list might seem quite trivial and materialistic at first, it’s actually more about ‘knowing yourself; what you like, what you want’.
And I think she’s right. To be honest, I wasn’t sure I could come up with a definitive answer to each one and there are still some responses that I remain shaky on. Does this mean I’m not happy? Well no, not necessarily, however I think it gives a good indication of the kind of erratic lifestyle that I’m living at the moment. In all honesty, I’m a little bit all over the place – and I don’t mean that in a world crumbling, life falling down around my shoulders way, before we get all dramatic. Merely that there are a few ‘unsettled’ elements of my life that I’m aiming to settle over the next few months.
So, I thought this would make a good six-month marker – inspiration for getting my life a bit more ship shape in the near future. Who knows what answers I might come up with come April 2014?! But for now….
1. A go-to drink
Fruity cider of some kind – Rekorderlig or Koppaberg – or a gin and tonic. Bombay rather than Gordon’s.
2. A go-to karaoke song
I have not done karaoke in the longest time. But, if I had to choose, it would probably end up being Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody or Fame.
3. A uniform
Leggings, boots of some kind – flat, leather – a long baggy top to hide ma squidgy bits and a colourful scarf. If you can even call that a uniform…
4. A hair stylist they love
I mean… I haven’t had my hair cut in a while…. But my friend Anjuli can always work wonders when it comes to creating some kind of intricate plaited number!
5. An exercise routine
Pre-lacrosse circuit training, cycling to work when it’s not raining (or cold… or windy…) and I’m hoping to get back into my gym and swimming routine sometime soon.
6. A hobby
Lacrosse. Although that could be described more as an obsession than a hobby. This blog. Although again that seems like too trivial a word to describe it.
7. A best friend
I’m lucky enough to have a few and I’m so grateful for each one of them. Plus G. As well as being a pretty great boyfriend, he’s also my go-to guy for the friend stuff too.
8. A healthy sense of self
This is really the aspect that I struggled with the most. I think I’m learning more and more as time goes on the type of person that I am – and the type of person that I want to become. I don’t think I feel entirely happy in myself in terms of where I am in life but I feel like I’m being honest with myself when it comes to identifying which aspects I’m not happy with and what elements I’d like to change. So that has to count for something, right? I think Emily sums it up a bit more concisely up above…
