182031_10150089400622548_5391603_nValentine’s Day is one of those holidays that seems to spark such a harsh and violent reaction from so many people, which seems a bit odd to me given that it’s a day dedicated to celebrating love and affection.

I can completely understand the feeling of resentment towards the commercialisation of it all – flowers, chocolates, cards, teddy bears, jewellery and so on, it all gets a bit much – and I can even appreciate the argument that we shouldn’t need a special day in order to show the ones we love just how much they mean to us.

But like it or not, this day is here to stay and, aside from hiding in bed all day or walking around with your eyes closed, there’s little you can do to prevent it from creeping into your life in one way or another. So why not embrace it? Boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, benefit-laden friend, whatever: Valentine’s Day is not restricted to just a partner.

So, why not take some time this afternoon to do something nice for someone else, just because you can. Make someone a cup of tea, send someone a nice email, cook someone a deilcious dinner; the options are endless. Embrace what Valentine’s Day is really about, sharing a bit of love and affection with those who need it most, be they a close friend, a ‘lovah’ or a colleague who looks like they’re in need of a smile!

As they say, if you can’t beat em…

Happy Valentine’s Day xxx
