On Saturday night I attended an incredibly stylish birthday celebration, held in honour of two close friends. In true Ken and Katie style, the night was totally unique due, in part, to the spectacular location.
Marylebone-based Purl London is a quirky cocktail bar that combines the vintage, relaxed style of a 1920’s speakeasy with an intriguing experimental edge. The result? Utterly fantastic.
Every detail, from the brown paper bag-wrapped Red Stripe to the gin-infused cucumber accompaniment served alongside one of the drinks, has been carefully crafted to add to the distinctive style of this underground bar and the overall effect is one of effortless cool.
Ensconced in a dimly-lit private alcove, patrons can sip away to their heart’s content, sampling their way through the most extensive of drinks menus.
And sample you must, for the drinks menu truly is a work of art; each cocktail comes with its own history and every single sip is designed to excite and delight. Some are chilled with liquid-nitrogen, others are served super-sweet, alongside a bitter pill to temper the taste. Whatever you order, be prepared for a treat.
And for those of you less inclined to experiment with crazy cocktails, Purl also offers patrons an extensive selection of beers, wines and spirits that will keep even the most discerning of drinkers totally satisfied.
So, pop in for a visit and let me know what you think – I’d love to hear which cocktail truly tickled your fancy.
